Hello and welcome to Made By Lainie, designed and made by me from my home studio in Carmarthenshire, South Wales.

How it began

Made By Lainie began in 2024, with a simple idea. I loved wearing statement earrings, but I didn't love how heavy and uncomfortable they could be. So I started experimenting with leather, creating earrings that were lightweight, beautifully wearable and, most importantly, something I genuinely wanted to wear myself.

That original idea has since evolved into a distinctive collection of contemporary leather jewellery, created for women who appreciate something a little different.

A lifelong love of art and design

Art has always been a big part of my life. It was my favourite subject at school and, after completing my A-Levels, I went on to study a National Diploma in Design/Ceramics at CCTA in Carmarthen. I then completed a four-year BEd (Hons) degree at Trinity College, Carmarthen, specialising in Art and Design.

After qualifying, I found that teaching wasn't the right fit for me, although I didn't understand why at the time. At 48, I was diagnosed as autistic, which finally helped me make sense of many things about the way I experience the world.

Jewellery making has proved to be a wonderful fit for me. My attention to detail is my superpower — I can spend hours completely absorbed in the process, carefully choosing colours, textures and shapes and making sure every little detail is just right.

My style & ethos

Each design is made by hand, with an emphasis on thoughtful detail, simplicity and a strong sense of individuality.

My jewellery isn't designed to follow every trend. It's about creating pieces that catch the eye, feel special to wear and bring something unexpected to an outfit - whether you're dressing for an occasion or simply adding a little personality to an ordinary day.

I particularly love working with leather because no two pieces are quite the same. The subtle variations in colour, grain and texture give each piece its own character.

Meeting you at markets

Although most of my making happens quietly in my studio, I also enjoy getting out and meeting customers at selected craft markets and events.

Meeting the people who wear my jewellery is one of the loveliest parts of having a small handmade business. It's wonderful to see pieces I've made being tried on, chosen and taken home.

Larger events can be a little more challenging for me, though. Busy environments, crowds and lots of noise can become overwhelming, so my husband Richard often helps me at the bigger events. He is an important part of the Made By Lainie team and I'm very grateful for his support.

Made By Lainie is a small independent jewellery business, and that's exactly how I like it. Every piece is designed, cut, assembled and finished by me, with plenty of attention to the little details that make handmade jewellery special.
